I look forward going to my dentist in Essex. I don't care if it's dermal fillers or just a teeth clean, I enjoy the visit. I take great pride in my teeth and have found a fabulous dentist. I usually see one in the city which has a trendy suite. The building has magnificent views of the city skyline and the bay. I try and make an appointment to see him every six months. Previously I could not stand visiting the dentist as on every occasion I was informed that I required a lot of dental work. It was infuriating as it often made me feel that I could not eat candy and other sweets. I often ate a diet which was high in sugar which did not help the situation. I decided to change my eating habits and no longer require dental work. It also allows me to save money as I am no longer outlaying for extensive dental work. I am scheduled to see the dentist early on in the new year. |

My girl friend got pregnant and it was revealed once she had no periods for quite some time. Tests revealed that she had one month pregnancy. Things went smooth in the start. However, after about 11 weeks, some kind of bleeding and spotting started. It was a matter of concern. Once we cosulted gynacologist, she revealed that the uterus had opened a little and required stitching to avoid any miscarriage. She was taken to the operation theatre and uterus was stitched. My girl friend had severe pain thereafter. Doctor advised complete bed rest, but no pills for pain. My girl friend had then swollen under belly and was unable to even sit for toilet. Things were then smooth till 36th week - during that period of blissful pregnancy, my friend's biggest concerns were what colour of maternity tights to buy! However, by the 36th week, the doctor again revealed that the baby is breeched and a cesarean section will be done for delivery - a normal delievery was not possible. So again she was taken to gynacologist who undertook a c-section and we were blessed with a baby boy. |

I once had to go to my local darlington dentists to have a tooth removed. It was a wisdom tooth so it was expected to need to come out at some point. I went to the dentist that my parents often go to because they know him so I felt a bit more comfortable to begin with. There were some x-rays taken of my mouth and I sat the chair and waited. He said that we absolutely had to remove the tooth, which I expected from the start. He decided that local anesthesia would be the best idea and proceeded to get out the needle. I’m not afraid of needles so that was no big deal. The problem was that the first one he accidently poked into his own hand. This replaced a lot of my comfort with fear. After cleaning up and changing his gloves and all his tools he tried again and injected me with pain killer which of course left my mouth numb and I couldn’t feel a thing. He said to let him know if I did and he’d make it better. He began to pull on the tooth which was large I was told and as he was pulling it was making all the noises that teeth make when they are leaving ones mouth this was of course gut wrenching. He asked if I needed more pain killer and I just stated no, it doesn’t hurt, it’s just the noise. |

I lost my eyesight as a baby, so I have adapted to blindness very well over the years. Most of my family members and close friends have as well, so they don't usually question my ability to do things. There isn't much I can't do with a little creativity. When I got pregnant with my first child, I wasn't all that concerned about my ability to care for him or her adequately - in fact, I really loved the fact that I was pregnant. I even liked shopping for the normal things sighted people would buy - changing bags, maternitywear etc. However, I got a lot of lectures from both well meaning and not so well meaning people about the kind of mother I would make with no sight. They weren't always nice about it. I was strongly advised to choose adoption by most of them, but I knew that wasn't the right decision for me. I now have 3 children and I do very well caring for them. I can do diapering, feeding, bathing, and, of course, cuddling. My advice to any blind mother-to-be is not to give up and to have confidence. There are many resources out there that can help with ideas on how to adapt what needs to be done to make it possible. |
