Make an Effort to Look After Yourself at Work

posted on 5 January 2012

I decided to get a casual job at a warehouse. It was a horrible experience. My job involved lifting incredibly heavy boxes off the production line. At first I thought I could manage the weight and then all of a sudden I felt my legs getting weak. We weren't given proper overalls for these jobs, and I was aware of that at the time, so I was worried. I had to put the box down and the supervisor was not very impressed. I asked if he could have just helped me with this one. He refused and went back to his office. All of the employees were very unfriendly. They were all a lot older than me and had worked at the factory for years. Most of them seemed well built and probably did not have any difficulties with the weight of the boxes. I had to quit. I will never work in a factory again as I could have injured myself. I do not think it is right that staff have to life heavy boxes and sustain an injury just to make the boss happy. It is not worth it.

College, Post-Exam: An End to a Party Era, the Beginning of Another

posted on 25 August 2011

Senior year of college, we were all within two weeks of graduating and had finished our final projects and exams. These two weeks were known as dead week because the only remaining students on campus were seniors, everyone else had gone home. Our dorm decided to throw the largest party we had ever thrown it was a collaboration of every single room in the building! It sounded like a great idea in theory and don’t get me wrong, we all had an amazing time. There was plenty of beer, plenty of good music, and hundreds of people coming in and out throughout the night until the early morning hours. What we had forgotten was that we were in charge of cleanup, since the cleaning staff was on vacation! It was the largest cleaning operation I had ever taken part in. I'd done some part-time work for companies that dealt with oil storage tanks, but this felt like a job bigger than any other I'd done before. We had teams divided into mopping and sweeping, beer can pick-up, bathroom duty, and windows scrubbing! The operation was so large that we even had captains who led the teams through the mess. In the end, about 6 hours of cleaning later, we finished and were ready to go pick up our caps and gowns.

The Evolving and Changing Garden Around My Home

posted on 13 June 2011

My four garden areas around my home are constantly changing and evolving. Some changes are due to the changing season with different blooms in spring, summer and fall. The garden evolves though because I add or take away plants that were not in the right place because of soil or sun or just didnt feel to be in right place. The four areas of my garden are: shade area, front of the house area, fence area and patio area. Each area not only have different sun and soil conditions but reflect different my different needs. My patio really needs a clean up - I might hire one of those diesel pressure washers to clean up all the moss (and even paint spillages when I did my wooden flower boxes). The front of the house garden should be hardy and attractive to give some curb appeal to the house. It contains azaleas and rhododendrons. The patio garden should be interesting and attractive to entertain myself and guests who sit out on the patio chairs. The fence garden is pretty and eye catching that makes me feel good when I drive up in my car. It contains many roses, salvia and lilies. The shade garden invites exploration as the stoned path leads you around to many varied plants. It contains many astilbes, hostas, ferns and other shade plants.

Spend More Time With The Lord, Not More Money! Invest in Steel Church Buildings.

posted on 18 May 2011

Church is a sacred place. It is the house of God and it is where we give him our thanks and praise. As churchgoers and, most importantly, children of God, it is our moral obligation to take care of the house of our Lord. But what if your church is in desperate need of repair and renovation? Building costs nowadays are not exactly cheap. But as I have mentioned, we have to take good care of our church and make sure that it is a place where everyone can focus their attention on God. With a church building in bad condition, it could be difficult to do so. If your church community is faced with such a situation, you should know that there are plenty of alternatives! You may opt to invest isteel church buildings, instead of traditional cement ones. This is because steel buildings are less costly and, at the same time, more durable. With the help of your community, you may be able to use steel to restore your church building and make it into a place of glory for God.

Yahoo Still My Favourite Site Even If It's Uncool

posted on 11 February 2011

My favourite website is Yahoo.com. I love the layout and design of the site very much. The background colour of the site is very soothing and the links are given at appropriate place making navigation easier. The best thing which I like about this site is that we can search whatever information we want using the web search and retrieve the information within a fraction of second. We can search anything we want like images, videos, shopping (shopping for anything from velcro to travel tickets!), local news etc. The main news headlines are displayed and we can get news on all matters be it finance, entertainment, sports etc. We can also sign in to our yahoo mail and check our emails and send and receive mails. We can also sign in to yahoo chat and chat with our friends if they are online. It is very user friendly site and is very simple to use. Yahoo.com helps us to do a multitude of things and is my all time favorite site.

DIY Nirvana: What I'd Change About My House

posted on 10 February 2011

Now that I have the money to fix up my house, there are many things I would love to change about it. Bench saws and a collection of other tools mean I also have the equipment to do the work too. The first thing that I would change is my kitchen - it hasn't changed for twenty years! I would first tackle the cabinets and put new oak ones up. Secondly I would change the old particle board countertops with either concrete or granite of some sort. Next I would put up the black splash in some kind of easy pattern that could easily be changed in a few years if I decided I want to change it. Next I would go shopping for appliances and buy top of the line stainless steel. I would also put up some type of track lighting or recessed lighting in the ceiling to give it that relaxed ambiance. The last thing I would tackle is the floor. That too is also a laminate. I would rip it all up by myself and install bamboo hardwood. There are also many other things that I would change about my house but, I believe this is a major improvement that I would want to do.

Remember the History of My Village Through Its Buildings

posted on 10 February 2011

I live in an old English village. It still has the original church from the 15th century still there - stone restoration has meant the church has retained its beauty and stature too. What I love about my village are all these old buildings. Even the pub - which has been around for 50 years or so - uses the old stables that were part of the village and they've kept everything restored there. I think the developers have done an excellent job by building new houses in separate areas and keeping the old village in tact. In fact, I see this a lot in Northamptonshire - the villages don't change, and they keep their olde worlde beauty. It's a real pleasure driving from Northampton to Bedford along the A428 to see all the old villages along this route - most are made of stone and have a real timeless beauty to them.

Why I Like My House

posted on 9 September 2010

After moving every year for the last three years, I finally have my very own home. This new home has many beautiful upgrades, and I adore it. I love the rich colors of the kitchen, the spacious family and formal rooms - with their lovely roof trusses - as well as the large master bedroom/bath. I finally have an oversized, deep bathtub that I can soak in as well as a large master closet with room for all my clothes. Another plus to this home is the enormous backyard that has not been landscaped which makes it a blank canvas for me to create. It also has plenty of room for my puppies to run and play. My home is my refuge surrounded by beautiful farmlands and a wide open view of the sky that displays the most breathtaking sunsets and star filled nights. The best part of my life is spending it at home with my family.

The Advantages of Using Professional Movers

posted on 24 August 2010

Whether you are moving to your very first home or whether you are moving up the property ladder, you should really consider the advantages of using professional movers. Also consider all the belongings you may no longer use. Once I actually rented a skip lorry to get rid of all my unwanted items - you will be amazed with how much you collect over the years. Moving house can be stressful enough without having to worry about the logistics of getting your things from one place to another. You can choose to go out and hire your own van and pack up your belongings. Then you will have to figure out how to get to your new property. The van you hire may be a much bigger vehicle than you are used to driving so you will have to work out how to negotiate something with a much larger surface area. This can be very daunting, especially if you are not the most experienced driver. If you get a reputable national mover to take the responsibility, you will be able to relax a little bit more and may even enjoy the moving experience. If you know that you are not the most organised person in the world, then getting help from the experts will be cost effective. A rep will usually discuss what will happen during the whole moving process. They will tell you what you need to do and by what time. They can even estimate how long it should take you to pack all your belongings together. It was a nice experience.
